Have you ever felt the satisfaction that comes from making an object of beauty and utility using simple means? Are you able to select a stem from a hedgerow and understand its uses, or cleave a length of timber from a log, explore the grain of the wood and craft a product with your own hands?
Spend time in the woods around a communal basecamp in a friendly and relaxed environment, learning valuable basic skills such as backwoods tool construction, tool use, safety and maintenance, and making useful camp equipment such as pot hangers and cooking implements.
You will have the chance to make a range of handcrafted products such as bark containers and cord, fish hooks, carved spoons and bowls.
The course also includes identification of useful native trees and other plants.
The weekend is based within Old Wives Wood near Sicklinghall in beautiful Wharfedale. The wood is set on a gentle hillside above the River Wharfe and is ancient broadleaved woodland with a carpet of bluebells and other native ground flora.
All meals will be provided.
